How Brilliant Technologies Helped Jabalbina Build a Secure, Modern IT Environment Across North Queensland
Jabalbina Yalanji Aboriginal Corporation needed an IT environment that could support staff working in Mossman and across multiple North Queensland locations while improving cybersecurity, simplifying technology management and ensuring long-term sustainability within grant-funded budgets. In 2026 Brilliant Technologies partnered with Jabalbina to deliver a fully managed IT environment, modern cloud collaboration tools, stronger cybersecurity protection and strategic technology guidance that supports the organisation’s ongoing growth
Jabalbina faced several common challenges experienced by growing regional organisations:
The organisation needed a trusted technology partner capable of supplying both day-to-day support and long-term strategic IT direction
As Jabalbina Yalanji Aboriginal Corporation continued to grow across multiple locations throughout North Queensland, the organisation recognised the need for a more structured, scalable and secure approach to IT — one that could keep pace with that growth rather than simply maintain existing systems.
Operating within grant-funded budgets meant every technology investment needed to deliver clear value while supporting staff spread across offices and remote locations. Jabalbina wanted to strengthen cybersecurity, streamline user management, modernise communications and ensure staff could work effectively regardless of location.
Peter Vale, the leader of Brilliant Technologies Managed IT Services division, worked closely with Jabalbina’s leadership team to develop a practical technology roadmap focused on security, efficiency and long-term sustainability, transitioning the organisation’s IT environment to a fully managed service model covering all devices and users. This included:
From early in 2026, their Brilliant Technologies Account Manager, Robin Farnsworth, also worked with Jabalbina to review technology spending and procurement processes, helping ensure purchasing decisions aligned with operational requirements while remaining budget conscious.
With staff working across multiple North Queensland locations, consistent access to systems and information was critical. Brilliant Technologies modernised Jabalbina’s infrastructure to allow staff to access business systems securely from any office location, improving communication between teams and reducing reliance on location-based systems.
Multiple internet providers were also consolidated into a single managed solution capable of supporting all sites, simplifying administration and improving reliability.
.
Cybersecurity became a major focus of the partnership. To better protect staff, data and critical systems, Brilliant Technologies implemented:
The result is a significantly more secure environment with greater visibility and control across the organisation’s entire technology footprint.
One of the clearest tests of the partnership came when an unforeseen incident at one of Jabalbina’s offices caused extensive damage to critical technology equipment overnight, including computer monitors, laptops, a conference display and the organisation’s copier.
With staff needing to continue operations immediately, Brilliant Technologies mobilised and within 12 hours, we supplied and deployed 17 replacement monitors and laptops, provided a temporary Canon copier while replacement funding was sourced, assisting with insurance and replacement planning, and designing and installing a new Microsoft Teams-enabled AV conference room solution. What could have resulted in weeks of downtime was reduced one day of lost time, allowing Jabalbina to remain operational during a difficult period.
Effective communication across regional, remote and On Country locations was identified early on as critical to Jabalbina’s operations. To support connectivity between staff and offices, Brilliant Technologies has delivered a range of technology solutions designed to improve collaboration regardless of location.
This included deploying Starlink connectivity to remote sites where traditional internet services were limited, helping provide reliable access to business systems, cloud services and video collaboration tools and implementing a 3CX cloud phone system, providing better support for remote and hybrid work, which also integrates with Jabalbina’s Microsoft 365 environment.
To support engagement and knowledge sharing in the field, Brilliant Technologies also developed a portable audio-visual conferencing solution that can be deployed On Country. This allows staff, stakeholders and community representatives to participate in meetings, training sessions and collaborative discussions from remote locations while maintaining connection with office-based teams.
Across Jabalbina’s office network, standardised Microsoft Teams-enabled video conferencing systems have been implemented to create a consistent user experience at every site. Staff can easily connect face-to-face between offices, share information more effectively, conduct training sessions and participate in decision-making processes without the need for extensive travel.
Together, these solutions are helping strengthen communication, improve organisational collaboration and support the sharing of knowledge between teams working in offices, remote locations and On Country.
Today, Jabalbina benefits from a secure, managed and scalable technology environment designed around its operational needs and funding requirements and by combining Starlink connectivity, portable On Country conferencing technology and office video systems, Jabalbina has created a secure communications environment that supports learning, cultural engagement, operational decision-making and collaboration across Far North Queensland, regardless of where staff are located.

Managed IT services provide centralised management, cybersecurity protection, user support and technology planning across all sites from a single point of contact. For organisations like Jabalbina Yalanji Aboriginal Corporation, operating in Cairns, Mossman and across multiple North Queensland offices, this means staff can access the same systems, security controls and support regardless of which location they’re working from, without each office needing its own separate IT setup.
Brilliant Technologies implemented Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA), Endpoint Detection & Response (EDR) and Managed Detection & Response (MDR), backed by 24/7 threat monitoring and incident response. Device management was centralised through Microsoft Intune, alongside Microsoft 365 security controls and ongoing best-practice guidance, giving Jabalbina stronger protection and greater visibility across its entire technology footprint.
Yes. While Brilliant Technologies is based in Cairns, this case study demonstrates support for staff and offices across multiple North Queensland locations, including regional and remote sites. Brilliant Technologies delivers the same managed IT, cybersecurity and strategic technology support to organisations throughout Far North Queensland, not just those based in Cairns itself.
Brilliant Technologies works directly with an organisation’s leadership team to align technology investment with funding realities, reviewing spending and procurement to ensure every dollar delivers clear operational value. For Jabalbina, this included ongoing IT consultancy focused specifically on maximising outcomes within grant-funded budget constraints, rather than a one-size-fits-all technology plan.
Brilliant Technologies provides rapid-response support to minimise downtime. When an incident at one of Jabalbina’s offices damaged critical equipment overnight, Brilliant Technologies mobilised and they were back to full operation within a day, replacing computers, the Canon copier and assisting with insurance and replacement planning, turning what could have been weeks of disruption into a fast recovery.
